Swinton Park Cookery School is set within the grounds of Swinton Park, a luxury castle hotel on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. It is located in the original Georgian stable wing of the castle, which now provides a large teaching kitchen with preparation kitchen, dining room and shop. The teaching kitchen has benefited from a recent refurbishment, with the installation of state-of-the-art Gaggenau appliances creating individual work stations for 12 students.
The school is open all year round, offering over 30 course themes to suit a wide range of ages, ability levels and budgets from Fish & Shellfish to Bread Making, and Modern British to Middle Eastern Cuisine. Most courses are taught by Michelin-trained Chef Director, Stephen Bulmer, who previously ran the Raymond Blanc Cookery School and has worked in top restaurants worldwide. Freelance tutors teach occasional specialist courses, such as the ‘Wild About Food’ foraging course with expert Chris Bax. All courses are non-residential, providing guests with flexibility and choice, but a preferential room rate is offered to cookery school students.
Swinton Park Cookery School is unique in its location at the heart of the 20,000 acre Swinton Estate, which provides an abundance of seasonal, home-grown produce. Fruit, vegetables and herbs are grown in the four-acre walled garden behind the hotel while venison, game, free-range pork and trout are reared on the Estate, where wild ingredients are also foraged.
